Outsourcing
“First we will have our young people employed by the foreigners, and then we will start our own companies. It is like building a building. Today, the U.S., you are the designers, the architects, and the developing countries are the bricklayers for the buildings. But one day I hope we will be the architects.”~ Dalian’s Mayor on outsourcing in the book THE WORLD IS FLAT.
Gosh, I just think that the paste of change will be much faster in this century then the previous one! Globalisation! We need to get ready!!
There is no doubt about India and China’s current and future economic clout. I hope the western world comes to a point of reckoning that protectionism is going to do more harm than good - I didn’t recall that much populist rhetoric on “China is taking away our American jobs” during the Clinton administration, have to say.
What interests me is (i) the implications on global missions; (ii) the potential of “Easternization” of cultures in the “western world”; and (iii) will the poor benefit from economic progress in these two countries, or will they be left behind.
